Abstract: The process of persuasive communication as it occurs in many situations is presented. In addition to persenting behaviorial science approaches and data, communication sources, channels and their effect on others are analyzed. The use of persuasive communication, is explained and research in communicaton, psychology, social psychology, anthropology and psycholinguistics is discussed. The effects of the mass media, the use of communication in formal organizations, network analysis, and specific suggestions on effective organization of messages are all dealt with. Communication flow in small groups and tactics for and stages of social change are also addressed.
