    台灣民間宗教儀式人類學者的紀錄已經很多,反而從社會學的理論來解讀的作品卻相當有限;本書蒐集八篇論文,全部與當代台灣民間宗教儀式、信仰、發展與信仰認同有關,希望能夠帶領讀者進入宗教與社會兩者互動間的學術解讀。由於政治體制容許民間宗教的存在,台灣民間宗教保留相當多的傳統漢人宗教儀式,異於中國大陸的民間宗教傳統甚多。因此,在台灣從事民間宗教儀式調查,固然有其困難,但對研究者而言,這裡已經是華人社會宗教研究的寶地。本書研究台灣民間宗教儀式中的禮斗、叩問、收驚、扶鸞等儀式,運用宗教融合、本土化等概念,來對民間宗教的儀式提出變遷的解讀。希望能夠理解處於後現代社會的台灣,仍然保留許多傳統漢人宗教儀式的內在因素。當然,這些儀式可能深受宗教主事者(宗教領袖)理念的影響而產生變遷,也有可能是信徒對現代社會的需求為宗教領袖所發現,而對儀式賦予新的意涵而產生變化。筆者對這些儀式的解讀,仍需要讀者進入本書中細細品味,才可能深刻理解這些問題的表像與答案。
