Description

International Review of Research in Mental Retardation is an ongoing scholarly look at research into the causes, effects, classification systems, syndromes, etc. of mental retardation. Contributors come from wide-ranging perspectives, including genetics, psychology, education, and other health and behavioral sciences. Volume 28 of the IRRMR serial was guest edited by Harvey Switzky and devoted to personality and motivational systems of the mentally retarded. That volume focused primarily on goal-orientation and motivation in an educational context and the extent to which the social stigma and personality factors associated with mental retardation impact goal-orientation. In this second volume on personality and motivation, the focus is on theories of motivation, and how accurately they predict what we know about the life of the mentally retarded with respect to decision making, interpersonal relationships, depression, and adaptive behavior.
