Description
READING CONNECTIONS offers instruction and practice opportunities that will prepare students for the demands of college work. This text differs from others in that all of the skills and strategies are taught in the context of a particular academic theme. Skill development, such as expressing the main idea, identifying details, or making inferences, is integrated into the content of each theme. Students learn and practice with short passages and then apply these strategies to longer readings on the same topic. As students work through each theme, they increase their background knowledge and the context into which they can incorporate new information. By studying organizational patterns, students learn how authors organize information, as well as how they can outline, map, summarize, and take notes.
