The book aims to provide a fresh perspective on attempts to use digital technologies to provide more joined-up public services. Drawing upon extensive research from inside live projects, the question of how the digitalization of local services can be made more relevant and useful to both front line service providers and the citizens they are aimed at is addressed. The authors illustrate the dangers of too much integration and centralization of data and insteadsuggest an alternative approach based on federation. Central to this is the role service users can have in the co-production of innovations that have the potential to improve service delivery and the citizen experience.
