Gerrit Postma (1952) has a lot of experience writing short stories and magazine articles. This book shows that he traded the more serious approach as the editor of a national publication for a more playful approach, clearly inspired by several Dutch writers of name. In "Smoke signals" we meet the friends who Dutch readers also know from a previous novel, yet to appear in English. This time a Native American reservation in South Dakota forms the backdrop for a mixture of adventure, information and humor. For American readers it also provides an insight on how a Dutch traveler may view certain aspects of the United States.
