For this paper the general meaning, of a short poem expressing subjective, Personal feelings either set to music or musical in form, will be sufficient. The songs of these centuries, as more of other'periods, reflect the thoughts, interests and occupations of the peo ple. The church, the state, chivalry, social life, are all to be seen mir rored in these collections of lyric poetry.
