A revolution is going on in small group ministry. Small groups want to go to the next level of learning together. This curriculum is a way to integrate the best of biblical teaching from leading teachers such as John Ortberg, Max Lucado, Doug Fields, Erwin McManus, Henry Cloud, Chip Ingram, and others via video with the best of small group study guides written by Brett and Dee Eastman, Todd and Denise Wendorff and Karen Lee-Thorpe from Saddleback Church. In Saddleback small groups, the video component is hugely popular. Groups that have used curriculum with video teaching resist going back to print-only curriculum. Therefore, Brett Eastman has designed a DVD video component to the Doing Life Together small group series. There are thirty-six sessions in the six-book curriculum written by Brett Eastman and others. Each book has six sessions and the titles of each book in the series are (the Doing Life Together small group series titles are also sold as a separate product): Ø Beginning Life Together Ø Connecting with God’s Family Ø Growing to Be Like Christ Ø Developing Your SHAPE to Serve Others Ø Sharing Your Life Mission Every Day Ø Surrendering Your Life for God’s PleasureFor each session, the DVD video segment includes the following elements: A Leadership Lifter (5 minutes), in which a teacher briefs the leader on the key issues of leading this particular session. In particular the leader will learn how to lead the session’s experiential exercise. These exercises make this series a cut above most small group discussion guides. They are much easier to lead when one has seen how to do them. A Drama (3 minutes) that provokes thought and emotion (humor, recognition) about the session’s theme. Drama catches people’s attention and sparks discussion. OR A Personal Testimony (3 minutes). Some topics are easier to discuss more forthrightly when someone on video has “gone first” in the sharing. Group members are also more convinced about the validity of a concept when they see that it has made a difference in the life of someone like them. Teaching (15 minutes) about the session’s core Bible passage and theme. Teaching takes the burden of correct interpretation off the leader, so less experienced leaders can be confident that their groups are biblically sound. Worship Music. Maranatha! Music will provide several praise and worship choruses with visual images and lyrics that will inspire a small group to sing along and worship together. The kit includes six study guides, six double-disc DVDs, and six leader’s inserts (not sold separately). The leader’s inserts help the leader integrate the video teaching for each
