This is a comprehensive text on the diagnosis and multimodality management of the range of preinvasive and invasive cervical neoplasia. The book provides detailed accounts and illustrations of the cytopathology, histopathology and colposcopic appearances of cervical neoplasia, presents algorithms for managing patients with abnormal Pap smears and examines current treatment options or preinvasive neoplasia and microinvasive cervical cancer. The coverage of invasive cancer includes information on radical hysterectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and combined modality treatments, as well as on the role of the emerging technique of operative laparoscopy. Full consideration is given to post-treatment surveillance, patterns of recurrence and management of recurrent cervical cancer. The book also includes reviews of the epidemiology and basic biology of cervical neoplasia, the etiologic role of the human papillomavirus (HPV), the latest diagnostic tests for HPV and the relationship of cervical neoplasia to the human immunodeficiency syndrome.
