Description

In the last three decades, gynecologic oncology has developed into a well established sub-specialty of obstetrics and gynecology and is formally recognized in the USA, Canada and Australia. Within the European Union, the United Kingdom has recognized the sub-specialty and there is increasing pressure for recognition throughout the Union. One of the most important aspects of the sub-specialty is surgery, but many aspects of the surgical treatment of gynecological cancer patients are not included in the training program for general obstetricians and gynecologists. The gynecologic oncologist must not only be an excellent gynecological surgeon but must have urological, general surgical, vascular and reconstructive surgical skills as well. This volume unifies these procedures into one textbook which will be of help to the gynecologist developing oncological skills and gynecologic oncology fellows in training. It combines practical procedures needed in the fields of gynecologic oncology with the necessary theoretical background. Unique is the international approach which discusses different and contrary views on clinical problems such as the way of thinking about microinvasive carcinoma in Europe and the USA and the criticism on the concept of cytoreductive surgery.
