After only one year, St. Benedict's Prep re-opened with ninety-six students, almost all of them African American. With a bare-boned teaching staff and little money, the monks endured some lean years. The school now serves a predominantly African American and Hispanic student body, and it recently completed a $50 million endowment and building campaign to ensure its future. Some have called the school's story, the miracle on High Street.
