Throughout his career, American artist Wayne Thiebaud (born 1920) has been associated with lusciously tactile and colorful paintings depicting desserts, still lifes, and landscapes. Though Thiebaud is also known for rendering the figure in striking unemotive poses, this new exhibition debuts a humanistic body of work focusing on clowns, as these performers are portrayed in various segments of their acts, both on and off-stage.
