Saying "Farewell to Innocence" can be a gut-wrenching experience. Donny and Tricia had only themselves to rely on as they grew up during the turbulent years of the '30's '40's and '50's. Having a father who deserted them, and a mother who clung to them for the essentials of life, they learned to fend for themselves struggling to come of age. Their father, a narcissistic authoritarian, who adhered to the principal that children should be seen and not heard, enforced his demands with a soft rubber hose. Their mother, a soft-spoken woman with no self-confidence, relied on her husband for all things. Before he beat her to death, the kids helped her escape his dominating ways. But freedom from fear has a price. After a devastating divorce, with no help from family members, on either side, they found themselves thrust into a role usually reserved for adults-providing the economic and emotional stability necessary to keep the family together. Their childhood and adolescence are filled with wondrous, hilarious, and heart-wrenching adventures as they struggle to survive and triumph over life's harsh realities, and survive their birth, their circumstances, and their parents.
