In 1940, Lance Corporal Patrick Michael Daly left his home country of South Africa as a soldier in the 1st South Africa Irish Regiment, to fight alongside British and other soldiers in the Desert War in Egypt and Libya against the Germans This book is a compilation of handwritten letters he sent to his parents, encompassing the entire period of this misadventure.This is the beginning of a journey which would take him through a battle fought and lost in the sands of Libya, his incarceration as a German POW in Italy and Poland, until his eventual liberation at the end of the Great march in 1945.Lovingly compiled by his son, Terence Michael Daly, 73 years later, this book serves to preserve the story of fear, tenacity and endurance in the longest and most deadly war of all time.
