This volume presents three major contributions on aspects of Precambrian geology in North America. The first presents a comprehensive overview of the Archean Superior Province and its mineral resources to early 1995. It summarizes the major lithological and structural associations that comprise the province along with their inferred tectonic significance and that of the mineral deposits contained in each association. The major types of deposits are described in terms of their key geological affiliations and district-scale geological settings. Regional geology of the tectonic sub-provinces and their internal domains are reviewed and related to the time-space distribution of the deposits that they contain. Finally, the tectonic and metallogenic history of the Province is summarized and the numerous interpretations that have been put forward are discussed in light of current knowledge. The second contribution covers the Grenville Province (Mesoproterozoic) and its stratigraphic correlations, lithology, metamorphism, structure, geologic history, and tectonic models and their interpretations. The final contribution provides a general, current overview of the Precambrian fossil occurrences in North America and their stratigraphic distribution. Includes index.
