This report provides a general overview of the characteristics & status of Central American wetlands and a detailed analysis of international, national, & regional wetland initiatives that affect Central America. This is followed by recommendations designed to focus attention on the critical issues facing wetlands in Central America and to issues in which Canada has significant interest. The appendix includes: profiles of wetland issues in each Central American country, with a focus on the importance of specific wetland areas; and a summary of the international strategy in Canada's 1991 Federal Policy on Wetland Conservation.
