This text argues that our lives are no longer safe in the hands of the medical professional, and that patients need to recognize the hidden agenda of modern medicine. It suggests that despite talk of patient rights, patients' views are increasingly being ignored in the drive towards cost-saving and efficiency improvements. More worryingly, the book argues, there are clear signs that the patient's best interests are not always taken into account by doctors. This is particularly true for the elderly, the handicapped, children, and those unable to communicate their wishes.
