In the process, Buffy and her friends are made to reveal inner secrets which would otherwise have remained unspoken, leading to humour, high drama and sometimes moments of poignancy and grief. Not least of his achievements is that Whedon wrote both lyrics and music for the entire episode, despite having never written songs before.
