Description

1965, Brian Rollings age 16, from a farming community in Kent, sets off to join the Infantry Junior Leaders Battalion at Oswestry in Shropshire. From the time the train departs Paddington Station there is a sense that something is not quite right, a feeling that could not be just homesickness or nervous apprehension; or perhaps it is? 1940, Billy Rollings a young recruit in the Royal Artillery also from a farming community in Kent has hung himself on his seventeenth birthday at the end of a long march in the rain; mistakenly believing his two brothers had been killed at Dunkirk. Billy's spirit is in limbo and his only way out is to find a replacement for himself. Brian is that perfect replacement, but the exchange must be completed before the end of his seventeenth birthday; the day Billy hung himself. Hidden, impossible romance also plays its part, as Brian and his fellow recruits are drawn towards the final, horrific conclusion. A modern day ghost story based on true events.
