Hearing on the rules of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, known as ERISA, & what it's done to provide health care to millions of our nation's workers. Voluntary ERISA-based employer self-insured plans cover nearly 80% of all workers in the nation. ERISA allows employers & employees to agree on a package of benefits without government regulations that may contribute to higher costs of health care. It is primarily among the small businesses that cannot afford to take advantage of ERISA & self-insurance that the bulk of over 40 million uninsured Americans are found.
