Examines recent educational initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of students and staff along what Capper terms "the axis of oppression." Each chapter reviews the role and representation of a marginalized group in: the literature, school reform, organizational theory and behavior, and the school-as-community. In a concluding essay Capper proposes a multiparadigmatic approach to administration, challenging policymakers and practitioners to take action to "nurture empowerment" in the schools, and ultimately, the society.
