Historical Dictionary of Revolutionary America is not just about the grievances that led to war or the war itself, but, more specifically, the subsequent period of trial and error - when success was far from certain and failure could never be ruled out - in which the original colonies and those that followed were actually welded into the United States of America. This dictionary roughly covers from 1763 to 1789 and describes the period first in a chronology, then in a comprehensive introduction, and finally, in several hundred detailed entries on important persons, places, events, institutions, and other topics.
