Abstract: Guidelines are provided to assist dietitians in providing nutritional care in a more timely, efficient, and effective manner in this reference manual designed to supplement other reference texts. The manual can be used to 1) establish protocols and priorities in nutritional care, 2) demonstrate preferred methods of therapy at a lower cost than parenteral nutrition, and 3) categorize disorders in which nutritional input can reduce morbidity and mortality or length of hospital stay. Nutritional needs throughout the life cycle (pregnancy, lactation, infancy, adolescence, adulthood) and various types of dietary practices and conditions (vegetarianism, kosher diets, food allergy, food poisoning) are discussed.
