Instead, this work demonstrates that educational inequality has been embedded in our nation's urban high schools since their founding. This book argues that public school have never been funded adequately, and instead, that so-called success of public schools is often tied to an influx of private funding and resources from families and communities that subsidizes inadequate public aid"--
