For seventy-eight consecutive days, the men pushed their bodies and spirits to the breaking point as they chased a $25,000 first prize in what is arguably the greatest long distance footrace in history.
The Bunion Derby, as the press dubbed the event, was the brainchild of sports promoter Charles C. Pyle.
