Commencing in the 1700s with Quaker preacher Elizabeth Ashbridge and Charlotte Clarke, actress, playwright, novelist, and cross-dresser, the tour concludes with 20th century activist Mary Whitehouse. Helpful tools include: an introduction on feminist response to literary theory and forces shaping women's self-narrative, Author Index of Twenty-Year Cohorts, Identification Index (of the authors' self-assigned designations), and Guide to Abbreviations and Terminology.
