Voice for Life is designed to help you discover what your voice can do, and then strengthen it. It will improve your knowledge and understanding of music, and help you look at what it means to be a singer and a member of a choir. This workbook will help you to practise singing and work on your musical knowledge at home, but you will also work closely with your choir trainer. You will discuss which sections to work on next – don’t try to complete the whole book on your own in one week! Your choir trainer may wish to introduce a new topic before you continue through the workbook, or talk to you at practice about work to do on your own. He or she may also want to check that you have understood one part of the book before you move onto the next. An important part of Voice for Life is learning to make the most of your voice. To strengthen and develop the voice, all singers need to practise regularly. This workbook contains vocal exercises to do at home. If you practise on your own as well as with your choir, this will help your voice to become really strong. As a singer, your whole body is your musical instrument – you take it to bed, on the bus, in the car, shopping, to parties and even on holiday – so it makes sense to take care of it. There are tips on voice care throughout this book. The book also contains puzzles and exercises to complete in your own time. As part of Voice for Life you are also expected to think about your choir and what it means to be a member of it. You will learn more about being a good team member and making the best contribution you can, and also about the role of your choir in your community.
