James L. Harner's Literary Research Guide, which Choice calls the standard guide in the field, evaluates important bibliographies, abstracts, surveys of research, indexes, databases, catalogs, annals, dictionaries, and other important reference materials in English studies. Over 28,000 copies have been sold since the first edition was published in 1989.In the third edition Harner has added entries describing resources published since 1992 and has revised nearly half the entries from the second edition. The third edition contains more than 1,200 entries; the annotations discuss an additional 1,331 books, articles, and electronic resources and cite 752 reviews.
