Much attention has been devoted to the implications of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) for economic growth, employment gains and losses, and the growth of regional trading blocs. But there is growing interest in issues well outside the traditional realm of trade agreements. This document contains papers on the following topics: a social charter for North America; trade negotiations, social charters, and the (NAFTA); the social side to free trade; the case for linking a right to adjustment with the NAFTA; a sceptical view of the social charter; and implications of a social charter for the NAFTA.
