Description

Information on the educational system of Saudi Arabia and the placement of Saudi students in U.S. schools and colleges is presented. After briefly introducing the country and the educational system, attention is directed to elementary education. A new type of secondary school program that includes general and specialized courses is described. Secondary level vocational and technical, commercial, and agricultural programs also are offered. Separate institutes for males and females train allied health workers. There are specialized institutes for preparing elementary and secondary male teachers of art, physical education, and science and mathematics. Military education is also offered at five academies. There are 11 girls' colleges and 7 universities, 2 of which offer programs below the bachelor's level to train skilled technicians. Bachelor's and graduate degree programs, enrollments, budgets and facilities, faculty, and study abroad are described, and profiles for each university and girls' college are provided. Guidelines are presented to help admissions officers determine the admissibility and appropriate level of placement of Saudi students in U.S. institutions. Appended are copies of certificates of completion and grade reports from different Saudi schools. (SW)
