This report, commissioned as part of the Prison Reform Trust's strategy to reduce child and youth imprisonment in the UK, focuses specifically on international examples of policies and practices that are used in countries which have relatively low numbers of children in custody or have been developed and implemented in countries to reduce child imprisonment. It looks at alternative sanctions that could potentially be transferred to England and Wales to reduce the number of children either remanded or sentenced to custody.
