John Battista Serra was born in 1848 on the island of Salina, Messina, Italy. He married Bartolomea Lazzaro in 1880 and they settled in Canneto, Italy. They had eleven children. Their son, Domenico, was born 3 September 1888 in Malfa, Italy. He emigrated in about 1900 and settled in Massachusetts. He returned to Italy twice to bring his mother and siblings back to America. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Italy, Massachusetts and New Jersey.
