Description

Eyes of the Storm features black and white images taken by Alba Middle School students from Bayou La Batre, Alabama , a Gulf Coast town that was destroyed after the August 29, 2005 hurricane. Eyes of the Storm came about as joint project between the students of Alba Middle School and students from Elm Place Middle School in Highland Park, Illinois. The Elm Place students visited Bayou La Batre in November of 2005 to help the Alba students start the project. Students from both schools toured the town and the lasting effects of Katrina, taking photographs of the destruction. Once they had developed the black and white film, the students narrated their photos through poetry, writing about their feelings and experiences.
