Dick Campbell was born at Kyabram in 1920. He joined the AIF in 1941 and was sent to Singapore and was taken prisoner at the fall of Singapore in 1942. He was in Changi, then worked on the Thai Burma railway and was finally sent to Japan to work in the Fukuoka Coal Mine. He was released in 1945. In 1947, Dick applied for a Soldier Settlement block in the Yarroweyah district.
