My goal, both then and now, two decades later, was to help students like me understand the nature of college, the value of a psychology degree, career opportunities with a psychology degree, and the purpose of graduate study. The Psychology Major's Handbook, sixth edition, is a source of practical information for students who are considering majoring in psychology and an informal mentor to guide psychology majors as they complete their degree. Choosing a major is one of the most stressful decisions that college students make. The Psychology Major's Handbook examines how to choose a major, the competencies acquired by psychology majors, as well as career options at the undergraduate and graduate levels. As in prior editions, the sixth edition of The Psychology Major's Handbook covers topics relevant to all students, such as how to succeed in college, develop an active learning style, hone study skills, and become more self-aware. New college students are often surprised by the autonomy required of students. Perhaps the biggest difference between high school and college is that college requires students to take an active role in their education. The Psychology Major's Handbook is intended to help students recognize their role in steering their own education. No book can replace the guidance of a faculty advisor, but The Psychology Major's Handbook is a helpful resource for students who seek general assistance, and it may serve as a springboard for student-advisor discussions"--
