Description

The Handbook of Integrative Developmental Science, inspired by the integrative nature of dynamic skill theory, explores the ways in which integrative approaches in developmental science can be employed to further advance theory and research in developmental science. This handbook brings together a diverse collection of essays discussing integrative theory and practice in developmental science across the lifespan that not only illustrate the comprehensive scope of dynamic skill theory, but also forge new research directions for the field. Rather than simply summarizing recent research, this book presents samples of exemplary works in this field along with theoretical chapters that place them in historical and philosophical context. The five part structure divides essays into an introductory section, Methods for Integrative Psychology of Development, Change Processes, Pathways and Processes Within and Between Psychological Domains, and Moving Forward. The team of expert contributors cover a range of topics in the context of integrative developmental science including morality, methadology, personality development, microdevelopment, as well as considering the foundations of the discipline and future directions. Although integrative approaches have been gaining increasing interest, there has been no attempt to bring together the various strains of this trend. This book does so in the form of a festschrift for Kurt Fischer, whose life and work have both inspired and exemplified integrative approaches to development. This book will be essential reading for graduate students and researchers of developmental psychology and human development, specifically developmental science.
