Hence the reader will not find in it any discussion of controverted points connected with the date, authorship, authenticity and inspiration of the book. The author of this work proceeds upon the accepted and well-nigh universal belief of evangelical Christendom upon these questions, and, consequently, does not enter upon their discussion at all, as matters or things in doubt or requiring discussion. That the Book of Daniel was really written by the one who claims to have written it, and at the time, place and circumstances in which he states that it was done to the great mass of evangelical and orthodox Christendom is not an open question, and admits of scarcely a reasonable doubt.
