In the begin ning of January, Clare brie y puts it, my poems _were published after a long anxiety of nearly two years and all the Reviews, except Phillips' waste paper magazine, spoke in my favour. The literary world, gaping for drouth, had seen an announcement, then an account of John Clare, an agricultural labourer and poet, during the previous autumn; the little cloud.
