Description

Necessary Scandals' is a contemporary, mainstream, fictional account of a woman, Catherine Jamison, who heads for disaster as a politician. The novel opens with the heroine, Catherine Jamison, crowning the political position of Freeholder Director, the top elected official of Hollyhill, Butler County, New Jersey. Catherine Jamison is charged to appear before the grand jury, for the indictment of the double homicide of her husband and another man. At that same time, she has a successful career in politics, and is campaigning for a second term as Freeholder in Hollyhill. Faced with the charges, she has to decide how to survive the strife of her second campaign for re-election, while her family and friends search for the likely murderer. She must balance the news reporters, the charges, her supporters and the County Republican Campaign Chairman during this major political campaign and personal strife. This story immerses the reader in the microcosm of local government, people and politics that affects our daily lives. It carries within its pages the political agendas, the lies, and necessary scandals that are significant to the undermining opponents. Written with much frankness, the story portrays profoundly flawed characters. In coming to grips with events contained within these pages, the reader may find it hard to believe that this work is fiction and neither an expose nor a reflection of any real persons or actual events. Susanna Harrington's first novel tells of the greed, sex, motivation and betrayal of those we so fondly tout as our politicians. Glimpse into the true to life machinations of politics, on a local and national level, as the drama of life unfolds in this mystery. The back room is where real politics is played out, and this is a story unlike any other. Politics never goes out of style. The scandalous events that lead to the murders, and the amoral character of the dramatic personae help to spread suspicion to many in this crazy chain of events. Signed confessions, media eruptions and frenzied lives expose the workings of back room politics. Catherine's father was a well-respected United States Senator, and her mother, Margaret, is a nationally known contributor to the American Autistic Arts Foundation. Due to Mr. Jamison's death, Margaret Jamison now occupies her husbands' national figurehead position-United States Senator. Catherine's mother is the perfect role model for Catherine. Margaret prepares and tutors Catherine so that she gains recognition as a serious political contender. Full of hope and ideals, she is bred to be a leading paramount figure for women, like Millicent Fenwick (R-New Jersey). Like Millicent, Catherine attempts to change government for the better. Enthusiastic for the political game, Catherine Jamison discovers the power of corruption and evil that the other political leaders have at their beck and call. This power creates a driving force so strong within a group of politicians, that no one can break the men's bond. Playing her hand, Catherine is a devout learner with a flare for winning. Another obstacle places her career in jeopardy when she is charged with the murders. Catherine's friends, Taylor and Bradley, attempt to find another killer in the brief time before the grand jury enters an indictment. Are her chances, for achieving a long time political goal of President of the United States, in jeopardy? We shall see if the forces against Catherine can be squelched. Susanna Harrington takes on the scenes of political hotbeds of deceptions, and divulges the horrific, tumultuous, internal political machinations of government. This drama is equivalent to any story depicted on Dateline', Court TV' or Primetime'.
