Description

We received word that the bandits were coming. We had prepared concealed positions and the men moved to them quickly. The bandits entered the area, and the bandit leader went directly to the chief of the tribe. He demanded tribute, and the chief refused. The bandit chief started to threaten the chief, and Phu Cat was stopped from attacking him by the chief. The bandit chief directed one of his lieutenants to grab one of the young women. Once again Phu Bai was restrained. The man took the woman by the hair and dragged her into position behind the bandit chief. Running Bear and I were watching from concealment. Running Bear had a sniperas rifle, and with it lined up on the man, I said, aIf he hurts her kill him.a The man bent down and tore the clothes off the girl, and when he started to molest her, I said, aKill him, a and with the boom of the rifle, the men in concealment rose and placed the rest of the bandits under arms.
