You know how the feeling when every time you crack open a page to a novel written by what seems like everyone, they're taking you to back in the day? Well, this here ain't no old-time tale. I'm bringing you to the future, and I'm introducing you to my girl, Roxy. Roxy is a twenty-first-century girl. Ya'll know the era: baggy jeans, slang talk, gangbanging, violence, and sex! It's been around since been around came around, but I'm bringing it to its highest peak because it's worse than ever. See, Roxy ain't the average Chicago city girl; her father is paid. Phillip (Roxy's father) is a factory worker that got a little seniority under his belt and lost his mind. He takes the family through hardships and trials, simply because "he wears the pants." Shelia (Roxy's mother) is the twenty-first-century deadbeat parent. She cares about no others but herself and has no higher than a high school education to fall back on. She had Roxy in high school, so she's always had it made and never had a job. Her parental skills will be pushed to their limits when she has to fend for herself and her child to survive. Phillip reveals a secret to his family that he has a girlfriend and children outside of his seventeen-year marriage to Shelia. Roxy thinks she is pregnant and goes to the clinic, where she meets the baby's mother, Karen, and is the first to reveal the secret to her mother. Roxy begins to rebel against her father for cheating on his family, and Shelia plans to leave Phillip. Roxy and Shelia run to Shelia's parents' house in Milwaukee, leaving Phillip enraged. Shelia's parents aren't fond of Phillip and want him out of their lives. Phillip shows up in Milwaukee to Roxy's birthday party with a vengeance, unknowing that someone else has a bone to pick with him also. He tries to hurt Roxy's boyfriend, Sprell, and Shelia's father kills Phillip. Roxy and her mother Shelia are left to find themselves, and Roxy's journey into adulthood begins in the series opener. She will continue maturing before her time, forcing her mother to be her friend and not her parent. Let the adventure begin.
