Description

Adapted for New Zealand, iiTomo is a new national series for Japanese. With its groundbreaking approach to intercultural language learning (IcLL), this three-level series is the most up-to-date and comprehensive course for teachers and students beginning Japanese in secondary school. Student Book: The explicit use of IcLL principles, such as analysing, noticing, making connections and reflecting on one's own and others' language(s) and culture(s), provides rich and meaningful learning. Script (hiragana and kanji) is introduced in purposeful and meaningful contexts. In iiTomo 1, hiragana is introduced progressively in the first three chapters so that students learn to read and write quickly and confidently. In iiTomo 2, a total of 21 kanji are introduced. The vocabulary list includes words from iiTomo 1 Student Book as a handy reference for students as they develop their writing skills. Workbook: Comprehensive practice of the new language and script is introduced in the student book so that students develop the skills of language learning with confidence. A wide range of carefully sequenced and paced tasks that incorporate IcLL principles gives students a sense of progress and motivation from the very beginning. Teacher Companion: All pages from the student book are reproduced with full-colour, wraparound practical teaching notes, which include IcLL support, assessment ideas, games and a wealth of support material. The workbook is also reproduced, with answers, providing easy and quick correction for teachers and students. Audio scripts are also provided. Audio CDs: All listening material for the student book, workbook, assessment tasks and additional practice is provided in one easy-to-use resource. High-quality recordings by native speakers provide opportunities for students to listen to clear and accurate modelling of the spoken language.
