What does it mean to surrender? WebsterA[a¬a[s dictionary says, A[a¬ATo relinquish possession or control of to another as a result of demand or compulsion.A[a¬A What if the very thing youA[a¬a[re surrendering holds the key to life and death? Why is our heart so important to God? King Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, said, A[a¬AKeep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of lifeA[a¬A (Proverbs 4:23). Have you tried to live a life pleasing to God, only to somehow manage to fall back into sin? Far too often we give the devil credit for our own failures and inadequacies. God revealed to me that my heart was the key to living a victorious life. Imagine your heart being a super computer hard drive with massive storage capability. Everything youA[a¬a[ve experienced in life, including what youA[a¬a[ve heard and said, have all been stored away for future use. Whenever we need to respond to anything in life, our heart retrieves the stored information and our mind instructs our voice to speak. What if the information is defective? The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). Because we are born with a sinful heart we must surrender our heart to God, to create in us a clean heart and right spirit. Giving God our lives without surrendering our hearts is like telling ourselves things will get better if we try harder. Our struggles will continue as long as we put our confidence in our own abilities. We have to find the root cause of our struggles, and normally they reside in our heart. Surrender your heart to God and allow him to perform open heart surgery today and start living the abundant life that heA[a¬a[s promised.
