"Some men are born to greatness, the rest of us are just born", Peter Moss is fond of telling his friend Bradley Jederman. However, for Bradley, a safe, unremarkable life is just fine. As a Wall Street investment banker, investing other people's money five points over prime is risky enough. His only high risk venture is watching his wife, Miho, a foreign news correspondent, cover wars and rebellions for CNN. She has just returned from San Miquel barely escaping death from a malicious dictator named Hormiga. The assignment neatly edited and airing on all channels makes Bradley break out in a cold sweat. He can't understand his wife's samurai philosophy of "living each day like it will be your last". Bradley's deep concerns over his wife's occupation put a strain on the marriage and Miho feels a separation would be for the best. Bradley's safe, perfect world starts to crumple. The more he tries to keep Miho, the further she seems to slip away. Just when all seems lost, Bradley's yearly company physical comes back. After leaving his doctor's office, Bradley is forced to ponder the meaning of "living each day like it will be your last." He is given six months to live. Some men take up painting, some men travel, Bradley keeps his three-piece suit on and continues to invest OPM five points over prime. At times overwhelmed by desperation, he drinks with his friend Peter and tries to figure out the "meaning of life". "Make a few bucks and find someone you like to play with your genitals," is the only reason Peter can offer. A glib consolation, but at the moment spoken, seems remarkably perceptive. Bradley's epiphany comes when he witnesses the brutal, senseless murder of his doorman. Bradley Jederman has always played by the rules. In the multiple choice test of life he has always chosen the safest, most conservative paths: A, B, C, or D. "Live today like it will be your last". Bradley Jederman pushes E, "None of the Above". Maybe he was born for greatness.
