I was an amateur traveler in every possible sense, on my first-ever backpacking journey - I had never even been away from home for more than two weeks at a time before I bought my one-way ticket to Guayaquil, Ecuador. I was - and still am - also an amateur photographer. Armed with only a Canon point-and-shoot, I got creative with angles, learned the details of my pocket camera, and took advantage of the stunning scenes that unfolded all around me to take the best pictures I possibly could - pictures that represented the incredible things I was experiencing, the amazing people I was meeting, and the life-changing events I was going through. Pictures to let my friends and family back home know how and what I was doing - to share on Facebook or send via emails or post on my blog.
