Charles Bennett Deane, Jr., wanted to present a biography of his parents, Charles Bennett Deane, Sr., and Agnes Walker Cree Deane, for his family and posterity as a picture of what one can achieve with a higher sense of purpose in one's life. He never forgot his roots in the credence of Christianity as a Baptist layman. He took his beliefs as the impetus for service with him to the halls of the United States Congress for 10 years and to every other public and private enterprise he undertook. His holding fast to what he believed was right not always endeared him to others, especially the electorate. But, he would not compromise his principles for political gain. Although suffering disappointing losses politically at times, his faith gave him the courage to carry on.
