Description
Samuel flipped the lure towards the far bank of the river, right above the swirl of water around a large boulder. The Grey Hackle had hardly settled gently on the surface, when a trout exploded out of the water, lure in his mouth. Twitching the end of the fly rod, Samuel set the hook, and kept applying pressure, carefully taking up slack in the line by turning the reel handle slowly. The next time the trout darted to the surface trying to shake the lure away, Samuel reeled in his line more rapidly and was ready when the large trout headed for the bottom, near the big boulder. Standing in the middle of the flowing water, he kept his balance as he continued taking in line, keeping up the pressure on the trout. Five minutes later, the trout had advanced enough towards Samuel, he unhooked the net handle from his belt, and gently slid the net under the exhausted trout, bringing him up out of the water, walking slowly to the river bank, where he dislodged the hook from the fish's mouth, and gently placed it back in the running water.
