In 1896, the Second Regiment of the Iowa National Guard, which was based in Ottumwa, Iowa, held its annual encampment in its home town. One of the town's newspapers, the Ottumwa Daily Democrat, produced a souvenir booklet for the national guardsmen -- including information about the guard regiment and the town which appears in no other local publication. This reprint edition is produced from a rare surviving original, with supplemental text.
This edition contains all the text and photographs to be found in the original, along with added illustrations from the 1890s. Text has all been reset for added clarity, and photographs are reproduced in a larger size than in the original.
A book of historic photos of Ottumwa locations near the Des Moines River, which flows through it. Photos have explanatory captions and are interspersed with related literary quotations.
