Throughout high school, Mary learns to meet the challenges placed upon her by the beginning of World War II. Later, she decides to go to college and to become a teacher. Unfortunately, she finds that prejudice and discrimination, fear and paranoia, all silently continue to coexist in the Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.
