She always enjoyed the view from her dorm room at Harvard in fall time. A maple tree had grown just outside her window. She liked to pluck leaves from it and trace their shape into her notebooks. That had been the height of beauty to her before. It now seemed like nothing more than a pale imitation of beauty, a failed attempt to capture beauty maybe. This was beauty. The country boy framed by the dying of the light, standing at the entrance to the shelter he had built with his own hands, out of necessity and survival...He had always made her feel as if more was possible from her life, as if there was something out there that couldn't be understood with more money.
